3 of those close to former US President Donald Trump, including his daughter-in-law, have been appointed to leadership positions in the Republican Party. The former president announced in February that he proposed involving Michael Whatley, the party's leader in North Carolina, and Lara Trump in running the Republican National Committee.

The party's 168 delegates gathered in Houston, Texas, responded to Trump's requests without surprises, after the rest of his competitors dropped out of the race to snatch the nomination for the presidential elections scheduled for next November.
