Washington suspends financial aid to Sudan and urges the restoration of authority to the civilian government

The United States suspended financial aid to Sudan after the military took control and urged the immediate return of power to the civilian government.

State Department spokesman Ned Price stressed that "power must be returned to a civilian-led transitional government that represents the will of the people."

"In light of recent developments, the United States is suspending its aid to support the Sudanese economy," he said.

The US State Department confirmed that it has no information about the location and condition of Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, noting that the United States is ready to resort to all appropriate measures to hold accountable those who try to obstruct the implementation of the will of the Sudanese people.
