After fuel, the price of bread could soon skyrocket.

From baguettes to special breads, the whole bakery is concerned.

The main reason is the price of wheat, which has risen 30% in one year, but the rise in the price of energy is also one of the causes.

An increase which the French would do well.

In a few weeks, a multigrain baguette will cost € 1.40, or even € 1.45.

A few more cents to pay: customers are already not enjoying this news.

"The price of a baguette becomes overkill. I buy two or three every day. 1 € 10 or 1 € 25, it's completely different", explains a woman in a Parisian bakery.

"Even 5 to 10 cents, at the end of the month, it shows. We will pay more, and we will be impacted on our budget", attests another.

The rise in energy and wages involved

An increase however necessary for many bakers, the fault of the sharp increase in the price of raw materials, but not only.

"There is an increase in wheat, so there will be an impact on the flour", explains Dominique Anract, president of the national bakery confederation.

"But energy has also soared, and wages have increased so we risk having an increase," he explains.

Dominique Anract tempers and recalls that the price of the baguette has only increased by 23 cents in 20 years.
