Attempted armed robbery at Mexico City airport

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - A shooting took place in the vicinity of Terminal 2 at Mexico City's international airport on Friday morning, the Mexican capital's police chief said, adding that two people were injured in the incident and a suspect was arrested.

Police chief Omar Garcia Harfouche said on Twitter that the lives of the two injured people were not in danger, noting that the officers shot and wounded the suspect before they arrested him.

Officials said the incident likely occurred as a result of an attempted armed robbery in which a bodyguard fired shots to repel an armed person riding a motorbike.

It was not immediately clear whether the suspect or others had also fired.

The airport media center said work at the airport, the largest in Mexico, was not affected by the accident.
