The National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research in Egypt announced that the stations of the National Seismic Monitoring Network of the Institute recorded an earthquake south of Crete (413 km north of Mersa Matruh), today, Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at eleven in the morning local time.

The institute said that the earthquake's strength was 6.4 on the Richter scale, stressing that it was reported that the earthquake was felt without causing any loss of life and property.

An earthquake occurred in Egypt on October 12, 1992, with a shallow epicenter near Dahshur, 35 km to the southwest of Cairo. 545 people were injured and 6,512 others were injured.
