Kiev expressed disappointment with the US efforts to build "democratic states", noting that such projects in Ukraine are pointless.

This opinion was expressed by the adviser to the office of the President of Ukraine, the speaker of the Kiev delegation to the trilateral contact group on Donbass Alexey Arestovich.

“The events in Afghanistan are the collapse of the doctrine of 'liberal democracy for all' ... As it turned out (suddenly), the real world is ill-suited for idealistic experiments to unify everyone under a single ideal concept,” Arestovich wrote on his Facebook page.

According to him, the failure of the United States demonstrated that such "democracy" destroys people and states in the same way as totalitarian regimes.

At the same time, according to Arestovich, the example of Kabul is perceived by fans of liberal democracy as a "non-systemic failure."

In this regard, Arestovich stressed, the struggle to build a "new, democratic state" in Ukraine makes no sense.

Recall that after the United States announced the withdrawal of its troops from Afghanistan, the Taliban * launched a large-scale offensive in the country.

As a result, most of the republic in a short time came under the control of the radical movement;

On August 15, the Taliban entered Kabul and announced the end of the war.

President Ashraf Ghani left the country.

At the same time, the United States argued to the last that official Kabul could resist the Taliban even without Washington's support.

At the same time, after the collapse of the Afghan political elite, US President Joe Biden said that building a "cohesive centralized democracy" in the republic had never been the goal of the United States.

According to him, the Washington mission had only two tasks: to find and punish those responsible for the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack, and also to make sure that Al-Qaeda ** would not be able to use Afghanistan as a platform for subsequent attacks on the United States.

"Nobody will defend the interests of Ukrainians"

It should be noted that this is not the first opinion of Ukrainian politicians and experts on the prospects for relations between Washington and Kiev in the light of the Afghan events.

So, earlier the point of view, similar to that expressed by Arestovich, was stated by the head of the political programs of the Ukrainian Institute of the Future Yuriy Romanenko, according to whom, in the situation with Kabul, the United States taught Ukraine a “dark lesson”.

“The tragedy of Afghanistan shows that if an ally is not ready to fight for himself, then the Americans will not take a lot of steam,” the expert said in his column for Glavred.

He also noted that even the status of the main US ally outside NATO, which is so sought in Kiev, did not help Afghanistan.

Moreover, he added, even if Ukraine receives such a status, this will not mean that "the United States will fit in," as many local politicians expect.

Recall that at the moment Ukraine is only a member of the NATO Expanded Opportunities Partnership (this status was obtained in the summer of 2020).

At the same time, Kiev is expecting a step from the North Atlantic Alliance to submit the NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP), which prepares candidates for joining the bloc.

However, NATO is in no hurry in this regard.

In particular, the secretary general of the alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, indicated that the Ukrainians need to make more efforts to implement their reforms.

In addition, he added, the granting of the MAP is possible only with the consensus of all 30 allied countries.

They are not yet eager to meet Ukraine halfway.

Thus, the representative of the German Cabinet of Ministers Ulrike Demmer said in April that further steps on the way to Kiev's membership in NATO are not currently envisaged.

“As you know, NATO as a whole has an open door policy.

Ukraine has the right to free choice in accordance with its political needs, but further steps towards its membership are not currently envisaged, ”TASS quoted her as saying in April.

In light of recent events, a RT source in the ruling Ukrainian party Servant of the People noted that what is happening in Afghanistan is a good example of how you need to build your own policy, and not fulfill all the "requirements from above."

“Nobody will defend the interests of Ukrainians, and if something happens, the Americans will say that we are to blame.

And here the main question is whether the Ukrainian elites are ready to grow up and take responsibility for the future of the country, including making unpopular decisions, "said the interlocutor of RT.

The Batkivshchyna party expressed the opinion that after the shots of Afghans clinging to the landing gear of American aircraft, Ukrainian nationalists will diminish the desire to implement the forceful scenarios of the “return” of Crimea and Donbass.

“There is hysteria in Ukrainian society, everyone is watching what is happening in Afghanistan.

What do we see?

How did the US abandon its supporters at the airport, and how do people cling to the landing gear and die?

I think that the desire to seize Crimea and Donbass by force after such cadres among Ukrainian nationalists has significantly diminished.

Because there may be nowhere to run, "- said a RT source in the Batkivshchyna party.

In turn, the interlocutor of RT in the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine indicated that American methods of training foreign armed forces, as well as their intelligence and tactics of warfare, raise questions.

"All this raises many questions for the Ukrainian leadership and their strategy to rely on the Americans in everything," said a RT source in the Ukrainian defense department.

In this regard, the interlocutor of RT from the office of the President of Ukraine suggested that the rhetoric of Vladimir Zelensky at a meeting with American leader Joe Biden may change.

“The circle of the Ukrainian head of state saw that in the event of a full-scale war with Russia, no one would help Ukraine.

The Americans will flee in a hurry, but from the Boryspil airport, ”the official summed up.

For the needs of the internal political struggle

Analysts, assessing the reaction of the Ukrainian political elites to the situation in Afghanistan, note that Kiev has once again made sure that the United States always acts exclusively in its own interests and does not worry about allies.

“Ukraine is of interest to the US administration only to the extent that it is possible to obtain benefits from cooperation with Kiev, in particular from the sale of products of the military-industrial complex, the deployment of some temporary or permanent American military units and economic benefits from the Ukrainian industry and the national economy. ", - said Vladimir Olenchenko, senior researcher at the Center for European Studies, IMEMO RAN, in an interview with RT.

He also suggested that Ukrainian politicians will now actively use the result of American actions in Afghanistan to fight against each other.

“The factor of Afghanistan will be actively used by the Ukrainian elites in the internal party struggle to improve their positions.

For example, opponents of the presidential administration will criticize Zelensky for being close to the United States, which is pursuing an ill-conceived policy abroad, ”the expert explained.

At the same time, he is sure that the example of Afghanistan will not affect Ukraine's aspirations for NATO.

Political scientist Andrey Suzdaltsev adheres to the same point of view, noting that Kiev lives "in its own geopolitical format."

“The Kiev authorities naively believe that the United States treats them differently, that they will not leave them to their fate at a critical moment.

However, they do not fully realize that the Washington administration has a completely different approach to its partners, "Suzdaltsev said in an interview with RT.

At the same time, Volodymyr Olenchenko believes that seeing the Afghan scenario, Ukrainian politicians will think about looking for other partners.

“It should not be ruled out that Ukrainian politicians, with their statements about the failure of the United States, can inflate themselves on the eve of Merkel’s arrival in Kiev and Zelensky’s trip to the United States.

Apparently, in this way they show the American side that they count on a better attitude towards themselves, ”concluded Olenchenko.
