The ash column from the volcano's first eruption reached a height of 1,000 meters and soared straight into the sky.

She said that Mount Merapi released at least three fast-moving pyroclastic flows on the 9th.

  Mount Merapi is the most unstable volcano among the more than 120 active volcanoes in Indonesia. Hanik pointed out that it is also one of the most active volcanoes in the world, and eruptions often last for several days.

  The last major eruption of Mount Merapi was in 2010, killing 347 people.

Residents nearby have been notified not to approach within a five-kilometer radius of the crater.

  The Indonesian Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center did not raise the alert status of Mount Merapi this week.

Since the eruption of the volcano in November 2020, Mount Merapi has been at the second highest level of Indonesia's volcano warning system.
