Popocatépetl is one of the most active volcanoes in Mexico. Numerous tremors occurred within 24 hours.

Numerous flights were canceled due to a 2,000 meter high ash cloud. There has been an exclusion zone of twelve kilometers around the volcano for years. Around 25 million people live within a radius of 100 kilometers. The warning level for the volcano was last raised in May last year. It lies on the border of the states of Mexico, Puebla and Morelos and more than 5,400 meters high.
