The Popocatépetl volcano is active again in Mexico.

Numerous tremors occurred within 24 hours.

In addition, numerous flights were canceled due to a 2,000 meter high ash cloud.

Mexico City International Airport announced on online service X that domestic and international airlines had canceled 22 flights.

However, it is not necessary to stop all flight operations.

The authorities had previously issued warning level two.

They warned that ash could fall in neighboring states.

The Popocatépetl, also called "El Popo", is one of the most active volcanoes in Mexico.

It lies on the border of the states of Mexico, Puebla and Morelos and is more than 5,400 meters high.

There has been an exclusion zone of twelve kilometers around the volcano for years.

Around 25 million people live within a radius of 100 kilometers.

The warning level for the volcano was last raised in May last year.

At that time, the authorities classified the emission of smoke, ash and glowing rocks as a danger to aviation and the population in the wider area.
