New volcanic eruption in Iceland, state of emergency declared on the Reykjanes peninsula. This is the fourth eruption in three months, but also the largest.

Shortly after 10 p.m. GMT, the end of the lava flow was some 200 meters from the barriers protecting the small port town of Grindavik. Lava was also flowing westward, as on February 8, and the length of the fissure was estimated at 2.9 kilometers. Some 28,000 people live in this region, located in the south of the peninsula, one of the most populated in Iceland.
