In the Dominican Republic, a country bordering Haiti, which has also announced the closure of the latter after the announcement of the assassination of Jovenel Moïse, these events make the front page of all the newspapers. The daily

Diario Libre looks

back on this first day of state of siege in Haiti and explains that the Dominican authorities are investigating to find out whether the mercenaries then crossed the border in an attempt to escape.

El Caribe,

meanwhile, returns to the country of "

permanent catastrophe

", between coups d'état, earthquake and assassinations. For this daily, the death of Jovenel Moïse is one of the most obscure chapters in the history of this nation.

In Cuba,

Granma

, which is the daily newspaper of the Communist Party, publishes a series of articles on Haiti. In one of them, Cuban President Miguel Diaz Canel condemns this assassination and expresses his condolences to the family of Jovenel Moïse. He also calls for peace, calm, for this Haitian people considered to be brothers according to a message posted on social networks by the Cuban head of state.

In Canada, a country where a large Haitian community resides, the daily

Le Devoir looks

back on "

this sordid murder of the president who risks pushing the pearl of the West Indies further into the political and social crisis

" in an article entitled "

Haiti between consternation and uncertainty after the assassination of Jovenel Moïse

 ”. The daily

La Presse

looks back on the unfolding of the events and wonders "

Who assassinated President Jovenel Moïse?"

 ". "

An event which shocked Haiti and the international community and which threatens to further destabilize an already fragile country

"According to the daily which, like many other newspapers, explains that for the moment no information has filtered"

on the identity or the motivations of its authors

".

In Mexico, the press also devotes the front page of international news to this assassination.

El Universal looks

back on the personality of Jovenel Moïse, his professional career and his presidential mandate.

A difficult exercise of power with corruption cases, an increasingly strong protest which even spread throughout the territory in 2021. A president whose a large part of the population demanded his departure recalls the daily.

Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru, the entire press on the continent condemns this assassination of Jovenel Moïse.

A continent to which, unfortunately, this episode brings back old and painful memories.
