Mass prisoner escapes and armed gang violence have plunged Haiti into total chaos. The authorities declared a state of emergency and a curfew on Sunday in Port-au-Prince, the capital of which is now in the hands of gangs.

The population, abandoned by the State, finds itself left to its own devices in a country facing a serious political, humanitarian and security crisis since the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse three years ago. The toll rises to more than 13 deaths per day.
