Mass prisoner escapes and armed gang violence have plunged Haiti into total chaos.

The authorities declared a state of emergency and a curfew on Sunday in Port-au-Prince, the capital, most of which is now in the hands of gangs.

The toll rises to more than 13 deaths per day.

The population, abandoned by the State, finds itself left to its own devices in a country facing a serious political, humanitarian and security crisis since the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse three years ago.
