He noted that the federal list of "United Russia" in the elections should include both political heavyweights and relatively new faces.

"In my opinion, this list, especially the top five, should look such that there are people who have been in politics for a long time - we usually call them political heavyweights, and people are relatively new," Putin said.

The President believes that the top five should include Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, head physician of the Kommunarka hospital Denis Protsenko, child rights ombudsman Anna Kuznetsova and co-chairman of the central headquarters of the All-Russian Popular Front Elena Shmeleva. 

Earlier, Putin began speaking at the XX Congress of the United Russia party.
