June 16, 2021 - According to the BBC, film producer Harvey Weinstein may be extradited to California to face further allegations of sexual assault. This was established by a judge in New York.

The former Hollywood tycoon and producer has been serving a 23-year prison sentence in New York since last year, following

the conviction for rape and sexual assault.

His lawyers had strongly requested that their client remain in New York to receive adequate medical treatment, but the request was rejected and now they would like to appeal the sentence. Weinstein is unwell and is "closely monitored," they say.

Yesterday, Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case dismissed Weinstein's attorneys' arguments that Los Angeles prosecutors did not file documents appropriately.

The 69-year-old former producer, symbol of

the "Me Too" scandal and one of the most powerful in Hollywood,

has always denied any accusation and always said that he had only had consensual relationships.

It should now be transferred to California - where it all started - and where by mid-July, Covid permitting, Weinstein will face a trial with

11 counts,

including the sexual assaults on five women in Los Angeles between the 2004 and 2013.

Defense attorney Mark Werksman said: "We are disappointed with the judge's ruling." Werksman said his team has petitioned to prevent Weinstein from being transported "until he can get the medical treatment he needs in New York."

Two surgeries are planned in New York following a series of health problems that have not yet been made public. Among the pathologies his lawyers had also declared blindness.
