An armed man who took refuge at his home in Isère Thursday evening after a romantic break-up and then shot at gendarmes before being arrested, has been indicted for attempted murder of persons holding public authority.

After his police custody, the man was remanded in custody.

"He admitted to having fired twice, but denied having targeted the gendarmes, his intention being to frighten them and make them leave the premises", indicates the prosecutor Eric Vaillant about the suspect, a man of 51 years.

" Panic attack "

In the grip of a "panic attack" after his partner told him she was leaving him, the man had threatened to end his life.

He then fired in the direction of two of the five gendarmes who were approaching his house to try to reason with him, without touching or injuring them.

Several dozen gendarmes had been deployed to secure the area around his home in Porte-des-Bonnevaux, a town located between Grenoble and Vienne.

Three weapons at his home

The fifty-year-old surrendered at around 8 a.m. on Friday after a night of negotiations which required the mobilization of a specialized unit of the Meylan gendarmerie, near Grenoble, then of the National Gendarmerie Intervention Group (GIGN).

The search of his home revealed three weapons including the one used, as well as ammunition, specifies the Grenoble prosecution which took over the case after that of Vienna.
