Nuremberg (dpa) - Significantly fewer participants came to a "lateral thinking" demonstration in Nuremberg on Saturday than announced by the organizers.

According to the police, 600 to 700 demonstrators initially came to the rally.

Around 3500 participants had been announced for the demo.

A police spokesman said about 300 participants came to a counter-demonstration at the Nuremberg fairground.

There had been a legal tug-of-war around the event in the past few days.

After the city of Nuremberg banned the "lateral thinking" meeting, the organizers first took action before the administrative court in Ansbach in Central Franconia.

There, a stationary demonstration without a protest march was approved on the fairground, the number of participants was approved by the judges.

After the city took action against the decision, the Bavarian Administrative Court in Munich confirmed the approval of the rally in the urgent procedure on Friday evening.

The Nuremberg “lateral thinking” group wanted to remember their first demo almost exactly a year ago.

The counter-demonstrators had first met in a Nuremberg park and then went on a bike tour to the fairground.

They also held a rally there.

According to the police, everything was "calm and trouble-free".

However, the officials repeatedly pointed out the mask requirement to the participants.
