"While the epidemic situation is improving on the national territory, the spread of the virus in certain countries, and in particular of several variants of interest raising fears of a risk of increased transmissibility or vaccine escape, requires a strengthening of the measures of control of arrivals from these countries, "said Matignon in his press release.

As for travelers returning from other high-risk countries, the police may unexpectedly check their presence at their quarantine location and impose a fine of 1,000 to 1,500 euros in their absence.

"Reinforced" test device

"The list of reasons and categories of persons authorized to come to France is restricted" for the most part, only to nationals, their spouses and children, and to nationals of the European Union or of a third country having their residence main in France.

The test device before boarding is, for its part, "reinforced, by imposing a negative PCR test of less than 36 hours (instead of 72 hours), or a negative PCR test of less than 72 hours accompanied by a negative antigen test less 24h ", also specified Matignon.

The first mandatory quarantines were put in place from April 24 for India, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, South Africa, before being extended to seven other countries on May 8.
