The rider Fabio Quartararo will undergo surgery on Tuesday after a muscle problem in his right arm contracted during the Spanish Grand Prix, the Frenchman's Yamaha team confirmed on Monday, which should however be present at the French GP on May 16.

Already operated in June 2019 on the right forearm, Quartararo will still have to undergo a "small operation" on Tuesday, after his significant pain on Sunday, a Yamaha spokeswoman told AFP, confirming information from the Team.

After undergoing medical examinations on Monday, including an MRI, the situation is better than expected, Yamaha said.

Quartararo appeared annoyed after the race when this common muscle disease for pilots, called "compartment syndrome", had not handicapped him in 2020.

"I had no more strength, my arm was rock," said Quartararo after the GP, finished in 13th place only when he was first halfway through the race.

"The doctor says: + We see each other at Le Mans stronger than ever +", wrote the 22-year-old Frenchman on his social networks, accompanying the message with a photo of all smiles with Valentino Rossi (Yamaha-SRT), legend of the discipline still active at 42 and nicknamed "The Doctor".

Former leader, Quartararo is now 2nd in the world championship, two points behind the Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) before the 5th round at Le Mans.
