Planegg (dpa / lby) - The Free State of Bavaria is supporting the further expansion of the Martinsried research campus in Planegg near Munich with up to 500 million euros.

The money is intended to support the establishment of the Max Planck Institutes for Neurobiology, Ornithology and Biochemistry.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Markus Söder, Science Minister Bernd Sibler (both CSU) and Economics Minister Hubert Aiwanger (Free Voters) signed the corresponding declaration of intent with the President of the Max Planck Society, Martin Stratmann.

Söder referred to the project on the short message service Twitter as “Bio Boost Bavaria”.

The Europe-wide center for life science in the Munich area offers perspectives for modern and young jobs.

The modern biosciences provide, among other things, the basis for new developments in biotechnology, bioeconomy, biomedicine and nature conservation.

Sibler spoke of a "powerful boost for life science research" and a clear commitment to the great importance of the campus.
