A large security operation against the mafia gangs in Italy

Police in southern Italy have arrested more than 50 people in a large-scale operation against the mafia gangs.

Investigators in Rio Caloría, in the southern tip of Italy, said today, Tuesday, that people suspected of belonging to the Ndrangheta gang are accused of drug trafficking, illegal possession of weapons, extortion, and other charges.

A statement said that more than 40 suspects were detained, with about 10 others placed under house arrest.

Operations were directed against the Pisque clan in the area around the port of Gioia Tauro in Qaloriya, as well as in the town of Rosarno.

Meanwhile, police also imposed custody on three companies, with a total value of 8.5 million euros ($ 10.2 million), according to the statement.
