Rotenburg (Wümme) (dpa / lni) - Two escaping horses were hit by a train near Rotenburg (Wümme) on Wednesday.

A pregnant mare died and another horse was seriously injured, as the federal police announced.

Accordingly, the driver could not prevent the collision with the animals despite the emergency braking.

The three passengers on board were unharmed.

A total of four Icelandic horses had run away from a nearby pasture, the animal owner had noticed the outbreak and followed the tracks in the snow.
