President Emmanuel Macron's announcements on new restrictions against Covid-19 were followed Wednesday evening by a total of 30.8 million viewers, all channels combined, for an overall audience share (PDA) of 90.7% , according to data communicated to AFP by Médiamétrie on Thursday.

The 24-minute speech, broadcast Wednesday at 8 p.m., was followed by 12.6 million people on TF1 (37.2%), 9.9 million on France 2 (29.2%) and 3 , 3 million on M6, according to figures from the audience measurement company.

The detailed data of the news channels will be known at the end of the morning.

This is a considerable score, even if it does not reach the highest ratings for official statements made by Emmanuel Macron in March-April 2020, during the first wave of Covid-19.

According to Médiamétrie figures, 36.7 million viewers followed his speech of April 13 and 35.4 million that of March 16, during which he announced the establishment of the first confinement.

Last fall, his speech of October 28 (announcement of a reconfinement) was watched by 32.7 million French people, and that of November 24 (gradual reduction of measures) by 29.1 million.

The president's previous speech, his wishes to the French broadcast on December 31, was followed by 17.5 million viewers in total.

Wednesday evening, Emmanuel Macron announced a new turn of the screw (closure of schools for three to four weeks, extension of restrictions to the entire metropolis, limited travel ...) in the face of the Covid-19 epidemic.
