Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - Teachers of all types of schools in Saxony-Anhalt should be able to get vaccinated against Corona with immediate effect.
The Ministry of Social Affairs in Magdeburg announced on Wednesday that other school staff will also receive a vaccination offer.
These include people who work in secretariats or as cleaning staff, but also trainee lawyers or interns.
"In view of the acute epidemiological situation, this step is absolutely necessary," said Health Minister Petra Grimm-Benne (SPD) according to the announcement.
So far, employees at primary and special schools were eligible for vaccination.
Education Minister Marco Tullner (CDU) described the decision as an "important contribution to pandemic-proof school operations".
So far, the willingness to vaccinate among teachers is very high.
"I hope that all colleagues from secondary schools will now also take advantage of the vaccination offer," Tullner is quoted in a statement from the Ministry of Education.
According to the Ministry of Social Affairs, the number of vaccine doses delivered should rise to a total of 452,550 by the end of next week.
So far, 9.3 percent of people in Saxony-Anhalt have received a first vaccination, 3.8 percent a second vaccination.
