Hamburg / Kiel (dpa / lno) - The number of company insolvencies in Schleswig-Holstein decreased significantly in 2020, but could increase again this year.

According to the credit information agency Crifbürgel on Friday, there were 534 bankruptcies last year, 32.7 percent fewer than in 2019. That was the sharpest decline of all federal states.

With 46 bankruptcies per 10,000 companies, the northernmost federal state was in the middle of the field.

The main reason for the decline in the past year is the suspension of the obligation to file for bankruptcy in combination with the numerous aid packages for companies.

For the current year, however, Crifbürgel expects a sharp increase in bankruptcies across Germany due to the corona pandemic.

The number of company bankruptcies could more than double compared to 2020.

A total of 35 500 company insolvencies are possible.

For Schleswig-Holstein, the credit agency expects more than 1,500 company insolvencies.

Nationwide, more than 300,000 companies are currently in financial difficulties.

According to Crifbürgel, companies from the catering, tourism, entertainment, textile retail and exhibition stand construction sectors are particularly at risk of insolvency.
