The federal government and the Schleswig-Holstein state government have high hopes for Northvolt's new battery plant. 3,000 jobs would be created directly at Northvolt, and another 10,000 are expected in the area around the factory.
Northvolt wants to produce batteries for a million electric cars every year. Production is scheduled to start in 2026 and create 3,00 new jobs. Critics see major problems with the infrastructure with the federal and state governments funding the project with around 700 million euros.
