Neckarwestheim (dpa / lsw) - On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the nuclear disaster in Fukushima, Japan, on March 11, environmentalists want to demonstrate for the decommissioning of the Neckarwestheim II nuclear power plant.

Block II in Neckarwestheim is the last in Baden-Württemberg to be allowed to deliver electricity until the end of 2022 at the latest - until then, a lot could still happen in the nuclear power plant, the Federal Association of Citizens' Initiatives Environmental Protection (BBU) criticized in a message on Friday.

The demonstration is planned for Sunday (1 p.m.) and is to start in Kirchheim am Neckar in compliance with an infection protection concept.

In the report, the BBU referred to cracks in heating pipes and called on the state government to revoke the operating license for the power plant in order to protect the population.

Damaged steam generator heating pipes in the power plant in the Heilbronn district have been known since 2018.

Among other things, EnBW had cleaned the steam generator, reduced the iron oxide entry into the steam generator and removed salty impurities.
