Tohoku Electric Power Co. aims to restart Unit 2 of the Onagawa Nuclear Power Plant in Miyagi Prefecture around September this year.

The government announced its policy to establish a new storage facility on the nuclear power plant site to temporarily store spent nuclear fuel. The new facility uses a method called ''dry storage,'' in which nuclear fuel is cooled with air in a metal container that shields it from radiation. Two buildings have been installed this time, with the aim of starting operations for the first building in 2028, four years later.
