Lille, already beaten 2-1 a week ago in the first leg at home, lost again by the same score on Thursday's return to Ajax's field in Amsterdam, and is therefore eliminated from the Europa League at the round of 16.
Yet authors of a very promising start to the match, Christophe Galtier's men conceded a first goal by Davy Klaassen (15th) with a header.
The Mastiffs equalized on a penalty converted by Yusuf Yazici (78th) and whistled for a foul on Jonathan David, but conceded a second goal late in the game, headed by the Brazilian David Neres (88th).
There are no more French clubs in the Europa League.
