Eisenhüttenstadt (dpa / bb) - In a chemical accident in a recycling company in Eisenhüttenstadt (Oder-Spree), 1000 liters of hydrochloric acid leaked on Monday, according to the fire department.

An employee was slightly injured by inhaling corrosive vapors and brought to the hospital for observation, said district fire chief Klaus-Peter Schulz when asked.

The RBB had previously reported.

Fire brigades from Eisenhüttenstadt and the hazardous materials unit of the Oder-Spree district were in action.

It was initially unclear why the corrosive liquid leaked.

The company has stopped work for the time being and sent the employees home, said Schulz.

The acid should be collected in secure containers.
