Scientists from the Siberian Federal University have developed a comprehensive method for processing aluminum production waste to produce valuable metal - gallium. The authors of the study propose to isolate gallium using granules of synthetic polymer sorbents - anion exchange resins.

According to experts, the new method will not only allow obtaining valuable metal, but also reduce the amount of stored aluminum waste. Russia ranks second in the world in aluminum smelting, so it also has great potential in terms of gallium production, scientists noted.
