Russian scientists have simplified the production of lactic acid on an industrial scale. Lactic acid is widely used in the chemical industry, but the process of its production from glycerin is complex and includes several stages.

The use of a new catalyst will reduce the time for producing acid and make it cheaper. The research will help in the future to replace imports of this type of chemical raw material, chemists believe. The study results were published in the journal Applied Catalysis A: General.
