With the increasing fears of the outbreak of the Coronavirus, Egyptian students and activists called on the Ministry of Education to take the end of the first semester exams online.

Under the hashtag (#online_awazir_the situation_dangerous) students, parents and activists have participated in the government's request to approve the exams remotely, as an alternative to students attending the committees, which calls for more contact and increases the chances of infection among them, as well as crowding in public transport.

For his part, Minister of Education Tariq Shawky confirmed that the ministry will announce the details of completing the school year and exams, with their full official details, next Sunday, February 14th.

The Ministry of Education stated that all the first semester examinations will be held in all grades, following the end of the mid-year vacation on February 20, in accordance with the decisions of the Council of Ministers.

Last month, the Egyptian government decided to suspend studies in schools and postpone exams for the first semester, due to the increasing cases and daily deaths of Corona virus.

Today, Sunday, local newspapers quoted the minister as saying that there is no intention to hold the first semester exams for the preparatory certificate or transfer classes, via the Internet.

Since the outbreak of the Corona pandemic in Egypt, there has been a state of tension and attraction between the Ministry of Education, students and parents, regarding the best measures to confront the virus and prevent the spread of infection within schools.

Social networking sites were the voice of students and their parents to express their concerns about the spread of infection, especially with the overcrowding of classrooms, and the most prominent of those demands was to postpone the study and exams, and after that the demands shifted to contentment with online teaching, and taking exams remotely as well.

At the end of last year, and amid the outbreak of a second wave and anticipating the emergence of new strains, activists and parents called for schools to be closed out of fear for the health of students, which was rejected by the Ministry of Education, questioning the motives and intentions of this campaign.

At the time, activists launched a tag entitled "#Studying_in_Egypt", which was issued on social networking sites and thousands of tweeters participated in it, and others appealed to President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to intervene and take a decision to close schools, and they launched another tag that also issued on communication sites entitled "# SOS to President Al-Sisi."

However, Minister of Education Tarek Shawky confirmed at the time that those who want to complete their studies are the majority of students, and those who say the opposite are a group that wants to stop the education process in Egypt, but without the minister explaining the source of those statistics that he relied on in his speech.
