The Jordanian Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Azmi Muhafza, said that there are students in the tenth grade in the country’s schools who do not know how to read or write.

The education system allows a student to fail a grade for one year, meaning that he repeats the school year only twice. The minister stressed that education in Jordan is currently facing the problem of Westernization, saying, "We are witnessing a Westernization of education. Some students do not speak Arabic"
