Lawyer Sergei Gritsko, who represents their interests, told RIA Novosti.

“We have filed an appeal against the verdict,” he said.

According to him, the victims do not agree with the opinion of the jury that Shamsutdinov deserves leniency, and intend to seek tougher punishment up to life imprisonment.

Earlier Ruslan Nagiyev, a lawyer of Ramil Shamsutdinov, called the verdict "unreasonably harsh" and announced his intention to appeal it.

A military court in Chita sentenced conscript Ramil Shamsutdinov to 24.5 years in prison for shooting his colleagues.
