Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) - This Thursday the police are continuing the search for a suspected murder victim from 30 years ago in a forest near Wadgassen (Saarlouis district).

A police spokesman said on Wednesday on request.

According to the public prosecutor's office, the previous search, which had last taken place two weeks ago, was unsuccessful.

The police hope to find the remains of a man from Völklingen who has been missing and probably killed since September 1991.

The search began in the late summer of 2020 after new clues emerged in the course of investigations.

The focus was on three men who are suspected of killing the man in the forest and burying the body there.

One of the three Germans who were arrested was recently found dead in his cell.

The authorities assumed a suicide.

The collective murder trial of the other two defendants is due to begin next Monday (February 1, 9:00 a.m.).
