Rescue workers are looking for missing people who survived the collapse. In the middle of the night, a container ship rammed one of the support pillars - the bridge collapsed a few seconds later. The cause of the collision is still unknown. The bridge was more than 50 years old and a good 2.5 kilometers long. It crossed the mouth of the Patsapsco River and was built in the 1960s.
