Winterberg / Hellenthal (dpa / lnw) - While the snow has long melted in large parts of North Rhine-Westphalia, the prohibitions on entering the snow-covered slopes at higher altitudes remain in place at the weekend.

After the good experiences of the past weekends with only a few day tourists, the same package of measures will be used on Saturday and Sunday, the city of Winterberg announced on Thursday.

The slopes are not allowed to be entered, the police and the public order office announced their presence and controls.

In addition, one again appeals to people to stay at home.

Schmallenberg also closes off its ski areas again at the weekend.

Despite the persistent thaw in the Eifel community of Hellenthal, parking spaces in the leisure area will continue to be blocked in order to keep tobogganing tourists as far away as possible.

The winter sports regions had to struggle with a huge influx of day-trippers in the Corona lockdown after Christmas.

Traffic chaos, garbage left behind, full slopes and parking spaces as well as numerous violations of the Corona requirements were the result.

Most recently, the closings and appeals not to come in the first place had had an effect.

While the snow cover was noticeably at the collar in the last few days, colder air is to be expected again from Saturday and then at least in the mountainous region new snow, according to the forecast of the German Weather Service on Thursday.
