According to health authorities, France recorded, Wednesday, December 30, 26,457 new cases of contamination by Covid-19 in 24 hours, as well as 303 additional deaths in hospitals.

In total, 2,600,498 people have been infected in France since the start of the epidemic in March.

This increase over 24 hours is partly explained by a catch-up of data that could not be integrated into the epidemic reports of the day before due to an incident on the computerized feedback, explains the agency Public Health France.

Health authorities stressed on Tuesday that the number of new reported COVID-19 cases (+11,395) was "underestimated".

French hospitals are treating 24,593 patients with COVID-19 at the same time, or 183 less than Tuesday, a first drop after four days of a continuous rise in the number of patients hospitalized for an infection linked to SARS-CoV-2.

The number of patients treated in intensive care fell to 2,661, or 14 less occupied beds than the day before.

While the executive plans to advance the curfew to 6:00 p.m. in some twenty departments where the circulation of the virus is particularly strong, the scientific council observes in an opinion released on Tuesday that an "uncontrolled resumption" of the epidemic in January cannot be excluded.

France has posted a total death toll of 64,381 since the start of the pandemic.
