Hugoldsdorf (dpa / mv) - Under the influence of drugs, a 29-year-old drove his car into a tree and left his seriously injured passenger alone at the scene of the accident.

The car hit two trees on Monday evening between Hugoldsdorf and Landsdorf (Vorpommern-Rügen district), slid across the street and crashed into a tree on the other side of the street, the police said.

Upon arrival, the emergency services found only one seriously injured 41-year-old on the wreck.

It was only during the interviews with witnesses at the scene of the accident that there were indications of other people in the car.

The police then found the driver and a 34-year-old other inmate slightly injured in the village of Tribsees.

The driver is now being investigated for, among other things, escaping an accident, driving without a driver's license and endangering traffic under the influence of intoxicating substances.

The police are also investigating the heavily drunk, 41-year-old seriously injured man: He is said to have been behind the wheel of a car prior to the accident.

A police spokesman initially gave no information about the precise circumstances of the accident and the drunk driving of the passenger.
