This is a double record since the start of the Covid-19 epidemic for the United States.
The country recorded a very heavy toll of more than 3,700 dead on Wednesday, and 250,000 new infections in a single day, Johns Hopkins University reported.
Some 113,000 people are also currently hospitalized because of the virus, according to data from the US Department of Health.
