Regensburg (AP) - Strangled during sex: A 54-year-old man is said to be imprisoned for ten years for killing his ex-partner.

He was convicted of manslaughter before the regional court in Regensburg.

The court also recognized the reservation of preventive detention requested by the public prosecutor.

This means that a decision on preventive detention will be made later.

The verdict is not yet legally binding.

The prosecutor had asked for the man to be sentenced to 11 years and one month in prison.

The defense lawyer assumed an accident during a sex game and pleaded for four and a half years in prison for bodily harm resulting in death.

The defendant took note of the verdict without moving.

He did not make any statements in the course of the trial, he only provided information through his lawyer.

The accused German killed the eight years younger woman in December 2019 in her apartment.

The woman had actually already separated from the craftsman - according to the indictment because of his jealousy.

The man pursued her, however, and attacked her once in her apartment and tried to rape her - because after the separation he said he had "nothing more to lose".

During the incident, the woman was able to call a friend for help on her cell phone, so the man let go of her.

When he visited her again the next day, the two of them - according to the findings, were consensual - had another sexual intercourse.

According to the indictment, the husband pressed the woman on the neck until she died.

The public prosecutor's office assumed that the man had not wanted to leave the woman to any other man if he could no longer have her as a partner.

After the crime, the 54-year-old, who was heavily drunk, tried to kill himself with several cuts in the forearm.
