Kiel (dpa) - In the process of attempted insurance fraud involving a faked death on the Baltic Sea, the Kiel district court wants to hear two investigators today.

Since the accused are silent, the witnesses are supposed to provide information on the allegations.

The public prosecutor accuses the 53-year-old defendant, his wife of the same age and his mother of insurance fraud in a particularly serious case.

They are said to have taken out 14 risk life and accident insurance policies for around 4.1 million euros in order to cash in on the death of the man.

The 53-year-old from Kiel is said to have staged a motorboat accident and then hid for months.

Initially in Hamburg with a friend of his wife, then in his mother's house in Schwarmstedt (Lower Saxony).

There he was discovered in the attic.

He is in custody.

The case against the 87-year-old mother was separated.

The verdict is expected at the end of January.
