The aim is now to reduce the risk that pupils, teachers and other school staff become infected at school, fall ill during the holidays and may need hospital care during the major holidays as care is already heavily burdened.

According to the municipalities' websites, it is in three of Västmanland's municipalities - Hallstahammar, Surahammar and Västerås - that the municipal schools plan to go on Christmas leave only on 22 December.

In Surahammar, however, the spread of infection and the strained situation within the school meant that it was already decided at the beginning of December that the schools would close already on Friday.

- The message today feels a bit like a receipt that we reasoned correctly, says Katarina Djukic-Forsman, school principal in Surahammar.

Meetings are held in Västerås and Hallstahammar due to this on Monday afternoon.
