Yesterday, the Palestinian Territories recorded 33 deaths from the emerging coronavirus (Covid-19), in the highest daily toll since the start of the virus outbreak.

And the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced, in a statement, that the deaths due to the virus within 24 hours were distributed by 17 in the West Bank, 13 in the Gaza Strip, and three cases in East Jerusalem, bringing the total number of deaths to 1029.

The Ministry stated that 1,845 new cases of Coronavirus were recorded within 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections to more than 121,000, among whom about 94,000 were recovering.

This comes in light of imposing a comprehensive closure and a curfew in each of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, for the second consecutive day, as part of measures to combat the outbreak of the Corona pandemic.

The closure is expected to continue for a week in four governorates in the West Bank, namely: Hebron, Nablus, Bethlehem and Tulkarm, which witnessed popular protests rejecting the government measures taken.

Local sources stated that Hebron, the largest governorate in the West Bank, witnessed clashes between youths and members of the Palestinian security services against the background of protests against the closure and curfews.

The governor of Hebron, Jibrin Al-Bakri, stated that the security intervention that took place "aims to put an end to all cacophony and to stand in the way of those who bypass the official work system in the governorate."

Al-Bakri said, "The closure regulations are being applied to a high level throughout the governorate."
