The Community of Madrid will finally receive

423,000 Covid vaccines less than those promised

by the Ministry of Health, as denounced this Thursday by the Government of Isabel Díaz Ayuso.

Thus, instead of having 630,000 units of the Pfizer brand in a first phase, the region will have only 207,000.

Due to this downward modification in the figures, the forecast to immunize around 300,000 people next January

would also now be reduced to around 100,000

, since two doses are required per patient.

This figure represents 1.5% of the autonomous population, which amounts to 6.6 million.

"Both in terms of logistics, processes, and personnel, the Community of Madrid is prepared to administer the vaccine," said the Minister of Health, Enrique Ruiz Escudero, in response to a question from Vox in the Vallecas Assembly.

However, he has stressed that they

are "conditioned" by the number of units

supplied by the department of Salvador Illa and has regretted that the data "will change from one day to the next."

For its part, the Ministry maintains that the Government of Spain has bought 20,873,941 doses of Pfizer that will arrive "very gradually" and assure that

the distribution between communities will be "equitable

.

"

"It is not the same to quantify the number of potential people who would have to get the vaccine in a first group than the distribution of vaccines based on the amount that arrives," says a spokesperson.

Also, in Health they point out that "all this is part of the vaccination strategy."

Finally, they point out that

the figures for the distribution between regions have not been made public

because it will depend on the units that are available.

Three phases

The Puerta del Sol Executive plan consists of the distribution in a first phase of the initial 207,000 doses to around 100,000 people.

Subsequently, the number will be progressively expanded taking into account the "complexity" from the point of view of conservation, since the Pfizer version requires that the product be kept at minus 80 degrees of temperature,

until "immunization with character general".

The regional vice president, Ignacio Aguado, has described as a "jug of cold water" the "new rectification of the Government of Spain" due to the "significant" reduction in the number of units that Madrid will receive.

"What we want is to vaccinate as soon as possible the largest number of the population possible and

expectations are now somewhat truncated," he

stressed.
