Hanover (dpa / lni) - The districts in Lower Saxony have started building their corona vaccination centers.

Health Minister Carola Reimann (SPD) presented the current plans of the state for the start of the vaccination campaign in Hanover today.

In the particularly heavily polluted district of Cloppenburg, work on setting up a vaccination center will begin on Monday in the youth hostel in Garrel, which is currently not in use.

The city of Wilhelmshaven was one of the first to start setting up a station in a former, vacant supermarket in an industrial park on Saturday.

Around 50 workers from the technical relief organization and the fire brigade were deployed during the construction.

Almost 100 people can be vaccinated there every day as soon as it starts.

If necessary, further vaccination routes are to be added.

The districts and independent cities had until a week ago to submit suggestions for possible locations to the state.

As the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior announced, so-called mission orders were issued for 28 of around 50 vaccination centers by Friday.

In addition to vacant commercial properties such as in Wilhelmshaven, town halls, former schools and sports halls are also planned as vaccination centers.

In Hanover, vaccinations are to be carried out on the exhibition grounds.

When exactly the centers will be able to start their work is still unclear, as it is not yet possible to predict when vaccines will be available.

It is also planned to initially deploy mobile teams to distribute the vaccines, only then should the vaccination centers begin their work.
