Hamburg (dpa) - Alcoholized and completely disinhibited, a 30-year-old driver is said to have caused a fatal accident in a construction site on the A1 near Hamburg: In a trial at the St. Georg district court, the man admitted the act in parts on Thursday.

According to an expert's report, the defendant's car most likely collided with a vehicle driving him at more than 220 kilometers per hour, which was traveling at around 60 kilometers per hour.

The 49-year-old driver died at the scene of the accident and his passenger was seriously injured.

The accident occurred on the night of May 1, 2019. His client was infinitely sad and shocked that a person had died, his defense lawyer said in a statement.

He rejected the charge of prohibited motor vehicle racing.

Shortly after the accident, the 30-year-old was said to have had about 0.4 per thousand alcohol in his breath.

In court, he stated that he had drunk several small beers before going to a wedding.

According to the prosecutor, he does not have a driver's license.

More than a year after the accident, the defendant was caught again - without a driver's license and with 1.68 per mille of alcohol in his blood.
