Swedish researchers have designed a truck body that will consist mainly of air. Collisions between heavy trucks and cars often end in death for the car occupants.

A new truck front can reduce car interior deformation by 30 to 60 percent. The structure is made up of repeating hexagonal tubes made of aluminum foil. It is ideal for a light, energy-absorbing structure because around 97 percent of the volume consists of air, the researchers say. The design offers flexibility in manufacturing to create prototypes and demonstrate the possibility of implementation.
