Swedish researchers have designed a truck body that will consist primarily of air. Collisions between heavy trucks and cars often end in death for the car occupants.

A new truck front can reduce deformation of the car interior by 30 to 60 percent. The structure is made up of repeating hexagonal tubes made of aluminum foil. It is ideal for a light, energy-absorbing structure because around 97 percent of the volume consists of air, the researchers say. The design offers flexibility in manufacturing to create prototypes and demonstrate the possibility of implementation.
